Program Goals

The purpose of this activity is to educate participants on HIV-1 genetic diversity and its implications for diagnostic testing/monitoring and clinical care.

Target Audience

Infectious Disease physicians, virologists, HIV specialists, clinical laboratory and other healthcare professionals interested in the management of HIV.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Describe the genetic diversity characteristic of HIV-1.
  • Review the origins of HIV-1 genetic diversity.
  • Evaluate the implications of HIV-1 diversity on diagnostic and patient monitoring assays
  • Explain the potential clinical impact of HIV-1 diversity.
  • Summarize a case study illustrating the clinical impact of HIV-1 diversity.
